Our Prelude to Spring Concert opens with Jacques Offenbach’s high-spirited Overture to “Orpheus in the Underworld\,” a witty and satirical romp featuring the now infamous “Can-Can.” \nFollowing this\, the Colorado Symphony’s Assistant Principal Bass Nicholas Recuber steps into the spotlight for the WORLD-PREMIERE performance of William Hill’s captivating Fantasy for Double Bass\, Electric Bass and Orchestra\, a rare and stunning showcase for an underutilized instrument for solo roles. \nThe evening concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s powerful and turbulent Symphony No. 7\, a work of profound struggle and defiant heroism that culminates in a glorious\, life-affirming finale. The first portion of the afternoon is a tour with the curator\, where you will learn about the current exhibit; stories behind pieces in the show\, what it takes to find artists\, and how an exhibition comes together. Then we enjoy coffee and cookies as we come together to create. We have multiple stations: one with an art project led by an artists or art teacher\, one for writing\, and one for simply chatting—the art of conversation. CCC is an opportunity to come together\, make new friends\, and learn something new. We are all at different stages of aging and we all handle it a little differently\, but what we do know is that social interaction and community engagement keep us all a little healthier. DESCRIPTION:  \nSummerfest is a cornerstone of the foothills’ summer festival season. Drawing artists from across the region and offering 100+ booths for attendees to peruse\, this annual 2-day festival also features live music throughout the day from local favorite bands\, food trucks and spirits vendors\, a children’s craft and activity area\, and a glorious landscape in which to enjoy it all. Summerfest 2024 runs July 20 and 21 from 10 to 5 daily at Buchanan Park Field\, just a mile down the road from CAE and only a few minutes off I70 at Evergreen Parkway. \n44th ANNUAL SUMMERFEST\nJuly 20 & 21\, 2024\n10:00 am – 5:00 pm daily\nBuchanan Field – 32003 Ellingwood Trail\, Evergreen\, CO \n$5 Admission at the door | Kids 10 and under FREE \nSummerfest is hosted by the Center for the Arts Evergreen\, a nonprofit organization.\nProceeds from Summerfest go to support arts programming year-round.
